I had some errands to run on Friday so I took the camera along on my wander around town. It’s still gloomy and overcast most days here, but despite the clouds Stavanger just pops with colour.

Great shots! Makes me want to come and visit you guys
Fun! You totally should – we have a big guest room with its own bath =)
Wow – it looks really beautiful. I love the alley in the first photo, it almost doesn’t look like Norway at all!
I need to see more of Norway before I can agree with you – I’m constantly wondering how Stavanger compares with other cities here =)
I think Stavanger is a summer city, yet you got some very nice photos here, Andrea.
Thanks, Sophie – hope the more summery weather comes soon! =)
Gorgeous shots – love a city that isn’t afraid to splash some colour about!
Me too! Always cheers me up =)
Very cool. Would love to know more about the music scene there.
So would we, Tim – something tells me the rock/punk/alternative scene here could be good but we’ve only been here a few weeks. I know they have a lot of classical and jazz…
This town is so colorful! Even when it’s a gloomy day out it still looks pretty lively to me. Amazing shots as always.
Thanks so much, Alexa – colour is definitely a mood booster! =)
I love those candy colored mailboxes!
Aren’t they adorable? And practical as they seem to match the doorbells…
It’s so cute and colorful! I’m convinced that cities like this are so colorful because they’re generally so cloudy! Reykjavik and Wellington are similar.
And… is that a troll I see in one photo?!?
I believe it is! I was so excited in the street – my first troll in Norway =)
I have read about this city in Word War II history books, and I have always wondered what it is like. Thanks for providing me a glimpse.
How interesting, Ted – what was Stavanger’s role in WWII? Would love to know the history…
The cat looks like a mini lion XDD I also like the photo of the mail boxes =D
You should see the one that hangs around our house – he even acts like a lion, stalking, climbing, scratching trees and marking his territory. I love all the outdoor cats here – they seem somehow more feline than the house cats I’m used to.
It’s true! The city via your pictures do pop with color. (And cloudy days are actually better for us readers because you don’t have the shade and stark sun to drown out the objects.) I liked the fish market and wondered what they are eating. Looking forward to what their National Day looks like!!
I love taking photos on the cloudy days because I don’t have to take my sunglasses on and off to check the shots, haha. We’ll be out with the camera on National Day and can’t wait to see our first one either! =)
Love love love these shots!!!!
Thanks, gorgeous!
Beautiful shots! I’ve never been to Norway or even really thought about going, but your pictures are so compelling! I love the pops of color around town; it’s one of the things that I loved most when I visited Charleston,SC on my honeymoon! I imagine the weather can get pretty dreary that far north, so that must help it feel like perpetual springtime!
I’ve definitely noticed that people here add colour wherever they can – bright pots for plants, the way they paint their houses and cheerful linens and accessories. I love colour so I’m in heaven here =)
Love how the colours pop – particularly those charming letter boxes and the troll in his red overalls!
Cheers, Lisa – I’m on the lookout for trolls everywhere now =)
Looks lovely. My husband would be in heaven with all of the fresh seafood! Have you increased your fish intake since moving there?
The most affordable fish here is salmon, which I have eaten much more of – I love it! =)
This looks so enchanting! What a great place to have to run errands!
When it’s not raining, it’s definitely a great area to wander =)
Love these photos! Especially the second one, and the one of the National Day costumes. So Norwegian!
Thanks, Edna! We can’t wait to see everyone in costume on National Day =)
You don’t get the chance to use the word dapper these days. I think he is on his way to the speak easy, circa 1928 (in the states).
Totally, haha! =)
great colours
Love the mailboxes.
Thanks, Cailin – they’re great, aren’t they? =)
What a cute city, I love it!
It’s great, isn’t it – we’re really enjoying it here so far!
Such a lovely photo essay. i like the first picture. very nice one.
It reminds me of a few similar ones I’ve seen throughout Europe.
Thanks so much, Laura! =)
The mail boxes are excellent! It reminds me of Valparaiso….just on the otherside of the world
You’re the second or third person to compare it to Valparaiso – shame we missed it when we were in Chile!
Interesting place! I have been to Norway a few times, but not Stavanger. Love the colourful mailboxes!
Thanks, Christina – definitely check out Stavanger if you ever make it back here – beautiful city =)
