Street Art In Amsterdam

November 19, 2012

I’ve always noticed the graffiti and street art adorning the walls of Amsterdam but haven’t photographed very much of it in the past. Here are some photos from a recent visit, where we also checked out the latest Art In Redlight exhibition, in case you haven’t yet seen those photos.

These guys were filming a music video in front of this piece.

The above piece is by ALIAS.

It’s common to see political expression painted on buildings in Amsterdam.

I love stumbling upon some great street art. Joe and I are both looking forward to visiting Amsterdam – hopefully this spring!

    • inspiringtravellers

Best time to visit! You’ll love it =)

These are great, thanks for sharing. I always think street art is a great insight into a city. I don’t recall seeing much street art in Amsterdam but I will definitely be looking out for it next time :)

    • inspiringtravellers

I agree – there isn’t as much of it in the centre of the city and I haven’t explored much outside the centre, but I like what I’ve seen

Some of the street art you find is really amazing

    • inspiringtravellers

Glad you like it, Sam! =)

Love street art…although the one with the kid is a little disturbing haha.

    • inspiringtravellers

Makes you think, though, doesn’t it? =)

Really interesting street art. I love catching scenes like this. “Kill all artists” is a little disturbing.

    • inspiringtravellers

Provocative, isn’t it? I love it

  • Susan

wow, so beautiful and artistic street arts. Last week I visited India and here I got to see Street arts(Not exactly street arts but promotional slogans etc.) of Political parties.

    • inspiringtravellers

      That sounds fascinating, Susan! =)

An excellent selection! I bought my sister a book on Brazilian street art a few years ago and that had some really amazing examples. The Amsterdam ones are great, though. I will always remember the little sign on the window of the Flying Pig hotel in Amsterdam warning cyclists; “Warning!! Any bikes left here will be taken away and destroyed!” A quirky, fun place.

    • inspiringtravellers

It definitely is, Alex – thanks for sharing your story!

Such cool photos! Definitely something I will have to see at some point in my life :) Thanks for dropping by my blog earlier!

These pieces are fun! So far, Montreal and Buenos Aires have been 2 of my favorite cities when it comes to street art. :)

    • inspiringtravellers

Haven’t been to Montreal yet but I would love to go!

Awesome artwork! There really is some great graffiti out there.

    • inspiringtravellers

      I agree!

Love it! I saw some of my favorite street art in Amsterdam on my last trip there but never ended up taking pictures. Thanks for bringing the memories back :)

    • inspiringtravellers

      Happy to, Shivya! =)

Fantastic photos – especially like the faces in the windows. I wasn’t aware that Amsterdam was so famed for its street art – in a little way reminiscent to Berlin.

    • inspiringtravellers

I don’t think it’s famed for it at all – most of this art is on specific streets that seem to have a lot more street art than others. I just thought the pieces were interesting =) There is a lot of ALIAS work around though

I like the Kill All Artists one! Amsterdam is a haven for street art and I love it.

    • inspiringtravellers

I never noticed so much of it as the last time we were there, actually – but glad I took some snaps =)

Great stuff. I haven’t seen many photos of street art from Amsterdam.

    • inspiringtravellers

I don’t think it’s a city that’s especially known for it…but over my visits there I’ve noticed the ALIAS art around a lot and that piqued my curiosity to discover more…

Impressive stuff! I always wanted to learn how to do this kind of thing. Gives a building so much more character.

    • inspiringtravellers

Definitely – spray cans are unwieldy…cannot be easy!

      Thanks, babe! =)

Always enjoy a healthy dose of street art posts :) I spotted a few of them in Amsterdam but unfortunately, I was more concerned not hitting people with my bicycle! haha

    • inspiringtravellers

Haha – completely understand – I am always trying not to get hit by the bikes when I am there!
