Prague is an incredibly romantic city. Wandering along the narrow streets in the shadows of old architectural gems like the Tyn Church remind you of how young you are in the scheme of things. You can take that youthfulness into any number of buzzing bars and restaurants, or retreat somewhere quiet with your loved one, content that you’re together in one of the most breathtaking places in Europe.
A perfect such oasis is the gorgeous Savic Hotel, a peaceful, luxurious place to rest your head in the city centre. The 14th century building was formerly the convent of a Dominican monastery, though it’s not lacking in modern conveniences. We checked in for three nights over my birthday and felt spoiled from the moment we were handed our welcome beverages.
After receiving a wonderful explanation of Prague’s main sights, practical information and restaurant recommendations, we headed to our spacious double room. High ceilings towered over the beautiful four poster bed while the crystal chandelier shone light on all the amenities. Each of the 26 double rooms are distinctively different, though they all feature air conditioning, marble baths, big flat-screen televisions and a cable internet connection (wireless is available on the ground floor).
The rest of the hotel feels like a home as well. Cosy and elegantly decorated common areas are as inviting as your own living room and there are also open air gardens and an atrium for sitting in the sun during the warmer months. Flowers, fresh plants and crystal chandeliers are everywhere and the staff are attentive to your every need. Wine lovers will enjoy the cellar with its quality international selections and the U Dominikana restaurant serves both traditional Czech and international food. For special occasions, try the suite with its original frescoes on the ceiling.
Of course, you won’t want to spend all your time in Prague at your accommodation. The hotel couldn’t be closer to all the must-visit attractions. Guests are just a few steps from the main square in the Old Town, the astronomical clock and the famous Charles Bridge. It felt exhilarating to be part of the history and excitement of this part of the city for a few days, and also indulgent to retreat to such perfect accommodation.
