Guest Posts
From early 2012 we are accepting guest posts from fellow bloggers and writers on InspiringTravellers.com
When we first dreamed up this website, sharing the stories of other travellers was a big part of our mission statement. Things have been hectic but we finally have some breathing space to focus on contributed material. We hope you’ll share your story with our readers.
Here are some guidelines for guest posting with us:
- The topic can be anything related to travel. We welcome personal stories, destination guides, thoughtful posts on why you travel, international work and volunteer experiences, expat issues and experiences, festivals, events, photo essays and articles on other related topics. Please do a quick search of our site to make sure the topic you wish to write about hasn’t already been covered here, but otherwise we’re quite open to subject matter.
- We will read each post for content and quality and may come back to you with suggested or required changes prior to publishing (usually only in the event of grammatical errors or inappropriate content).
- Your post may not appear anywhere else on the internet, either now or in the future.
- The post should be about your own experiences, not those of someone else or a researched article about a place you’ve never been to, or an experience you’ve never had.
- You must include at least two quality photos (i.e. not blurry or over/under-exposed) that you have the rights to publish. Creative commons photos, while not ideal, are okay if necessary to fill in gaps in your stock but you must send the source URL so we may credit the author appropriately. They must be at least 750 pixels wide as this is the maximum final size we use on our blog.
- Submissions should be in plain text format or pasted into the body of an email. Please do not send through MS Word files (we travel with a netbook most of the time and cannot open them).
- Inclusion of a personal biography (two to three sentences will suffice) and a personal link is required. You may also include links for up to two of your social media profiles.
- Any email submissions from companies or persons looking to guest post for commercial reasons will be deleted without response unless you submit to the correct email address and are transparent in your intentions. Please see our advertising page for more information. If your blog is not obvious from your email address, please include some information about who you are so I don’t mistake you for a spammer.

All spam will be reported and deleted so spammers please don’t bother.
It would be ideal if you could pitch your idea before sending through the material. This ensures that your time isn’t wasted. The only reason we would reject a guest post is if the above guidelines haven’t been followed but it doesn’t hurt to double check.
Guest posts will go onto the editorial calendar on a first-come, first-served basis. Please give yourself a deadline and let me know what it is when you email me so I can schedule your post accordingly. Missed deadlines are a breach of trust (though I’m really understanding if something serious comes up – just be sure to communicate) – so if you’re going to miss your deadline, let me know as soon as you know. Otherwise, the deal is off. Permanently.
Why should you guest post for us?
- In short, exposure. Plenty of bloggers are more popular than we are and we probably can’t do much to help them. But if you’re new or new-ish and looking for new readers, you should be submitting your best posts as guest posts to blogs you really like. We’re really happy to share our trusted network with you and help your blog grow. Plus, we love meeting new bloggers and helping them out. Lots of awesome people helped us get started and we’re keen to return the favour!
- We’ll link back to you. Our site is currently Google PR3 and this will help you if yours is lower.
- We’ll promote the hell out of your post. We actively share on Twitter, Facebook, StumbleUpon and other relevant websites. Check out our advertising page for our social media stats and current subscriber numbers.
- In return we ask that you share, tweet and stumble your guest post. It will help boost the power of your post. We also expect that you’ll reply to the comments that others leave on the guest post. We use Disqus so they will receive your response. This is a great way to network and meet new people as well.
Looking forward to reading your guest post and thank you in advance for your contribution!
