Plan our trip…
**NEW** 30 Sept 2010: check out the map of our itinerary on Travellerspoint here!
We’re taking off at the end of 2010 for at least a year and have worked out our general itinerary. Just for fun, we would love to know your favourite things to see, especially the things most people miss. Some of these places we’ve been before, others we haven’t. We’re adventurous and will try most anything, so please help us out by commenting below and we’ll plan to see as many of your ideas as we can: things to see, places to stay, where to eat and any other tips you may have for a place on or near those on our list.
Once on the road, we’ll be blogging regularly about unusual stuff we find and the people we meet. Please leave your website address too so we can keep up with your travels…

Looks like a great itinerary! I especially love to see all those New Zealand cities listed! I lived in New Zealand for a while a few years back, and I've written a lot about my time there. Check out some of my stories and travel tips/guides on my blog: http://dangerousbusiness.wordpress.com
I would add Myanmar to your list. You can avoid supporting the government by staying in privately run hotels, and traveling with privately owned bus companies. Inle Lake and Bagan are fantastic. A balloon ride over Bagan (save your pennies) is magical as the sun rises.
I don't know where you've already been, so this recommendation is based on an assumption you haven't already been to Asia. Because of the Japanese Asian connection, you would be mad not visit all the other fantastic Asian countries. Thailand and Cambodia appear overdone, but they are fantastic. One underdone country is Indonesia… I would highly recommend going through at least Bali, Java and Sumatra. In fact, from Australia, you could go to Bali and then head West and end up in Northern Sumatra, catch a boat across to Malaysia and then North into Thailand. Heaps of people do that and it's easy. From Thailand, there are plenty of amazing countries and they are all just a hop, skip and a jump away from Japan.
Thanks, Amanda – will definitely check out your NZ tips!
Thanks, Nancie…we plan to do some Asia travel down the track – will definitely take your suggestions =)
These are great tips, Adam. We're hoping to work in Asia following our trip next year – if all goes to plan, we'll get stuck into more travel in Asia then. I have been to Bangkok and Bali back when I lived in Singapore, and John has been to Hong Kong. Definitely want to do more than just these places, though! Thanks heaps =) ~Andrea
I think you should plan other travelers' trips. Do you need to be accompanied on this adventure? jk Out of all those places, I have only been to Amsterdam and I do love that city. As far as suggestions, you may want to check out the Scandanavian Countries if you have never been.
Hi Scott! This is a bit of a delayed reply, apologies. We love Amsterdam as well; hoping to possibly go up to at least, Sweden. John has been to Scandinavia before but wants to go back. Thanks for your comment =)
Hi both! Greeting from Malaysia
Great itinerary that didn’t include other Asian countries except Japan. Extend another year to at least discover the diversity of culture, etnics in Asia. Do come to Malaysia whenever u want summer during your winter
Thanks for your comment =) We’re planning an expat stint in Asia following our travels and hope to see more of the continent then – we’re definitely interested (Andrea has actually been to Malaysia before, but only briefly)!
hi guys
Wow, we are officially jealous! Your itinerary and in fact your whole site looks awesome. Look forward to travelling through you as we are not able to travel ourselves at present. I need to apologise to Andrea as i often push my pram into the ankles of people who walk in front of me.
Renae Lloyd x
Hi Renae, Great to hear from you and thanks so much for checking out our site!
I remember your emails from when you and Ryan travelled a few years back and lots of good stories, so happy we can return the favour =)
Re pram pushing: bad girl
Keep in touch, Andrea
Just finding your site and couldn’t help but comment on your Eastern European route….don’t skip Bosnia! You’ll be in Ljubljana and Zagreb, so you’re in the region. When I traveling through that region my travel friend insisted that we do Bosnia…I wasn’t thrilled about it, but went (not that I didn’t want too, just hadn’t ever really considered it much). Bonsia (Sarajevo and Mostar) ended up being one of my top 10 countries
So that’s my pitch! Lol, look forward to digging through your site a bit more!
Hi Shannon – So glad you found us! =) Thanks for the tip on Bosnia…we really want to see a lot of places further east than this itinerary – John actually has a Macedonian background, so he’s travelled more in the region than I have. I’m interested in places like Romania as well. So much to see! If we have the opportunity to get to Bosnia we will definitely keep it in mind =) ~Andrea.
Sounds like a good (rough) plan! Will be following you guys around (on the net). Bon Voyage!
Thanks, Jen! =)
